Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.
Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.
Band & Strings Program
As a school, we value the arts and firmly believe in the importance of music in the curriculum. There are many wonderful reasons to join the school band and strings programs. Your child will have the opportunity to learn a skill that can be used for the rest of their lives whilst also gaining confidence through public performance.
Being part of a music ensemble provides numerous benefits and opportunities. Not only will your child learn to play their instrument with their friends, they will also learn the skills of concentration, perseverance and self‐discipline. Studies have shown that learning to play an instrument enhances students' performance in math, language, arts, foreign language and other academic areas.
The school music groups play at school events, such as Grandfriends and Open Day and the Elanora Extravaganza night, as well as performing at music festivals and other community events.
Recruitment takes place in Term 4 each year for the following year and it is not just for students in Years 1 and 2. We encourage older students to also think about taking up an instrument, understanding that they will be accelerated through the program if they progress at a faster rate to their peers.
Emma Wake will conduct our Strings groups and Olivia Bryant will conduct our Band.
To create a successful program we require positive parental involvement. Encouraging your child to practice and ensure weekly lessons are attended, really helps the student to progress and enjoy learning their instrument.
If you wish your child to join a band or string ensemble, or have a related question, please contact the school office.
