2022 Band & Strings Program:

The Band and Strings program is run directly by the school. Please head to the Creative Arts webpage, under Learning At Our School, for more information about what's involved and signing up.

Bands:

Training band:

The Training Band is for Year 3 - 6 students who have not yet been in the band or who have swapped to a different instrument. They will be in the Training Band for 12 months, gaining the skills of their chosen instrument and learning to be part of a team, and are expected to have a weekly private music lesson with a professional tutor. With such young enthusiasm it is amazing how quickly they start to make a good sound. We look forward to showcasing Training Band throughout the year – at school, community music festivals and the Elanora Extravaganza.

Senior band

Students progress to Senior Band, where the music becomes more diverse and complex but still fun - most pieces are well known from recent movies or songs. Students are expected to continue a weekly private music lesson with a professional tutor. They perform at school events, local community events & Eisteddfods throughout the year and are encouraged to undertake AMEB exams externally through their tutors.

In 2018, Senior Band successfully auditioned for a performance opportunity with The Arts Unit Primary Proms concert at the Sydney Town Hall. This is the first time a band from EHPS has done so, and we are very proud and excited.

Strings:

The Elanora Heights Public School String Program offers the opportunity to play Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.

To be part of this program, private lessons are compulsory, and are coordinated by the parent outside of school hours. Children are welcome to join the String Program at any point during their schooling at EHPS, and will be placed in an ensemble for which their playing level is appropriate. Broadly there are 3 tiers to the program:

  • String Beans (Beginner Strings) - generally year 2
  • Mezzo Strings - years 3 and 4, and
  • Senior Strings - generally years 4-6.

Aside from school performances and local Instrumental Festivals, the Senior Strings have the opportunity to perform at the Opera House in the prestigious Arts Unit Festival of Instrumental Music.

What to wear at performances:

The seasonal full school uniform.

Other music groups:

There are other music groups within the school, such as dance groups, recorder ensembles and choirs. These are co-ordinated by school teachers. Please leave a message with the school office on 9913 7283.
